Nesta is an innovation foundation. For us, innovation means turning bold ideas into reality and changing lives for the better. We use our expertise, skills and funding in areas where there are big challenges facing society.
Director, Innovation Skills
As Director, Sonja led the team responsible for spreading innovation skills and strengthening the conditions that allow innovation to thrive.
During her six years at Nesta, Sonja was instrumental in designing new partnerships, projects and programmes with UK, European and worldwide clients. She helped build a portfolio of learning programmes and initiatives that drew upon Nesta’s innovation knowhow. These ranged from Evidence Masterclasses for high-level policy and decision-makers in the UK and overseas, through to the States of Change initiative, which includes a 6 to 12-month learning programme for public servants around the world delivered through a global faculty of practitioners. She also helped build a global network of workshop facilitators to help strengthen creative and social enterprises through a partnership with the British Council.
Sonja has spent 20 years working in design and innovation. Before joining Nesta, she was Head of Design at the Design Council where she played a key role in the design and development of its Leadership Programmes for the public and private sectors and led the scaling of its Design Associate network. Sonja has a Masters in Vehicle Design from the Royal College of Art and a First Class Hons degree in Design Management.
