What are we doing?
We want to support research exploring how novel forms of combining artificial intelligence and collective intelligence can better empower communities to identify and develop solutions related to the climate crisis, environment and sustainability challenges in the UK.
This grant is for the development of between three and five new speculative ‘concepts’ (with service blueprints or low-fi prototypes) that illustrate how these new tools and methods could empower communities and civil society and enable new forms of community action on the climate crisis.
These concepts should draw from the Centre for Collective Intelligence Design’s existing research and output, including the Collective Intelligence Design Playbook .
We are looking to award one research grant worth up to £35,000. We welcome creative approaches to undertaking the research and we encourage partnerships.
Why are we doing this?
Our interest in this area builds on lessons learned in Nesta’s recent study on The Future of Minds and Machines: Exploring how artificial intelligence can enable collective intelligence. The study sets out a framework for understanding different interactions between human collective intelligence and artificial intelligence, and identifies a specific future opportunity for innovation in how we develop solutions to challenges related to environment, energy and the climate crisis.
