The Welsh Government recently published a consultation on proposals for new renewable energy targets for Wales. These targets included goals around energy generation and technology adoption for 2030 and beyond.
Nesta responded to the Welsh Government's proposed 5.5GW target for installed heat pump capacity (around 3.3GW of which we assume would come from homes). We welcomed the ambition of the target, but believe a target based on the number of homes with a heat pump system would be more effective and clearer to plan for. We proposed that a target of 400,000 homes by 2035 would be both ambitious and achievable through a combination of new and existing policy.
