More than six million people in the UK are currently employed in occupations that are likely to change radically or disappear entirely by 2030. Even before the pandemic hit, the development of new technologies, demographic shifts, and an increasingly globalised economy were already driving changes in the demand for different types of skills.

Nesta, in partnership with the Department for Education, has delivered the CareerTech Challenge - a funding initiative to support organisations to test and develop online adult learning and career advice for those at risk of losing their jobs due to automation. From April 2020 to March 2021, we have been working with innovators to test, develop and launch these exciting new digital platforms that help workers navigate the changing world of work.

Through exploring the stories of three characters, we show how these innovations can provide practical, personalised and timely support to precarious workers.
