The Education Committee wanted to understand the benefits of adult skills and lifelong learning to the individual, society and the wider economy. We shared our research into how the nature of work and the employment market is going to change over the next few decades.
We know that some types of jobs are going to change, some are going to cease to exist, and new types of jobs are going to emerge. It is important that people have the right skills for the jobs of the future. To make sure this happens, people will need to be able to access useful, relevant training and adult skills programmes.
We made recommendations to the Education Committee about things that government, employers and training providers can do to make sure that workers have the right skills to get high quality, well paid, and secure employment in the future.
