We are interested in the potential for parks and green spaces to play a greater role in generating renewable energy.
There is an opportunity for parks and green spaces to play a bigger role in reducing carbon emissions, including for neighbouring communities. Energy generation could be a source of income for parks and green spaces, or at least a way to reduce costs.
However, the development of renewable energy schemes in public parks has been challenging, with reduced public subsidies making it harder to identify sites with greater potential and therefore a viable case of investment from parks owners or others.
We are supporting two projects with the aim of increasing viability through better availability of data and understanding of possible business models.
