Nesta is an innovation foundation. For us, innovation means turning bold ideas into reality and changing lives for the better. We use our expertise, skills and funding in areas where there are big challenges facing society.

Lives

Co-owns 2 bedroom flat with partner in Tulse Hill. The Local Council owns 25% equity bought under scheme in her mid-30s. She originally moved to London from Somalia in her teens.

Works

She owns and runs a community healthcare service, organising patient groups with similar illnesses or addictions to share their daily data with each other and the central NHS patient database. She is also a Local councillor, championing London's increasingly self-sufficient neighbourhoods. She developed an app with other progressive councils to try and get better contact with electorate.

Plays

Catching up with global news in multiple languages and debating healthcare policy with virtual community. Monitors her own haptic skin response, blood pressure, sugar levels with clothes-based devices. She is active member of local mosque, acting as a bridge between Local Authority and mosque representatives.

Technology used

Tablet with Arabic/Somali/English interface, online hangouts, commissions. Web platform, database and app development with overseas service providers, constantly checking council communications dashboard, physiological data collection sensors.
