Around 120,000 households are now connected, mostly in Karnataka. They provide products, service and access to finance through partnership with banks, cooperative services and microfinance institutions.
This is not cutting edge technology – what marks SELCO out is their innovation to create inclusive business models, and their extensive investment to create the components of an ecosystem conducive to inclusive solar power. Within three years they hope to have designed a model that allows for solar power provision to customers earning 1000 INR (just 20 USD) a month.
