Prominent technologist and co-founder of CKAN, making data more open and accessible
The Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network (CKAN) is the leading open data platform for storing and distributing data.
The platform encourages public collaboration and transparent data publication standards and is used by the UK’s data.gov.uk and the EU Open Data portal.
Dr Rufus Pollock is a prominent technologist making data more open and accessible.
He is co-founder and CEO of the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKF), the leading non-profit organisation behind CKAN. He is well-known for his advocacy, research and work in open data policy, accessibility and technology.
Rufus has been involved in numerous OKF open data projects, including: Where Does My Money Go, a website showing how public funds are being spent; Open Data Commons, online legal tools for data issues; and Open Shakespeare, a free online database of the Bard’s complete works.
He is an open data advisor to numerous governments and a member of the UK’s Public Sector Transparency Board. He also co-founded the Open Rights Group, an organisation campaigning for improved citizen data rights, with a group of leading tech advocates.
Rufus holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cambridge. He was a Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow and a Mead Fellow in Economics at Emmanuel College.
