This event took place on Tuesday 13 September. You can watch the recording below.
The UK faces many pressing issues and trust in our political and democratic systems is at an all-time low. Advances in participation methods and digital technology are presenting a new mode of governance. Initiatives such as citizens’ assemblies and participatory budgeting are bringing people together to make critical decisions and reshaping the relationship between government and society.
Drawing on research from their new report and toolkit, our Centre for Collective Intelligence Design team brought together practitioners and experts to discuss the opportunities that democratic innovation and digital participation could create, for a special online event.
Why you should watch the recording
This event was for anyone working in local and national government, policy, public and community engagement, civic technology or research and innovation more broadly, who is interested in the ways that innovation and digital technology could reshape our democracy.
Our panel shared a new strategic framework for advancing democratic innovation, key insights on the challenges and opportunities, and practical ways cities can design and deliver these initiatives, drawing on our latest research. We also heard from on-the-ground practitioners from the cities of Gothenburg, Helsinki and Trondheim.
