This event celebrated and discussed the rise of Patient Leadership and the launch of a new book by David Gilbert, ‘The Patient Revolution – how we can heal the healthcare system.’ The book shares the powerful real-life stories of ‘patient leaders’ - ordinary people affected by life-changing illnesses, disabilities, or conditions, who have all gone back into the fray to help change the healthcare system in necessary and inspiring ways.
Who is this event for and why should I come?
This evening event was for anyone interested in engaging with and learning from patient leaders. We welcomed people with lived experience and those who wanted to learn how health and care so often fails patients and what we can all do about it. Clinicians, those who plan and commission health and care and innovators working to improve services all learned about patient leadership, how it works and what it can contribute.
The event was an opportunity to understand and explore the pivotal importance of patients as genuine system and decision-making leaders – and why patient leaders can help tackle the crises in the NHS and beyond.
What’s on offer?
David was in conversation with Christina Cornwell, Director of Nesta's Health Lab and we heard from Patient Leaders whose stories are featured in the book. We explored some of the key questions the book addresses and heard about where patients are getting the chance to lead and introduce effective change in health.
