Nesta Sparks is a series of informal learning sessions where we share our practical knowledge around different ways to innovate. We're running monthly talks where you can hear from Nesta staff about different innovation approaches we’re using and what we’ve been learning.
For our sixth session, Cath Sleeman, Quantitative Research Fellow at Nesta, talked about how to create interactive data visualisations and show examples from Nesta across a range of sectors.
In a world filled with data, visualisation enables researchers, journalists, policymakers and practitioners to make it accessible to a wider audience. A data visualisation lets users ‘see the data’, and can range from simple line charts to fantastic creations. The strength of a data visualisation lies in its ability to show data efficiently.
The event was designed for people who are interested in data visualisation and are considering using them in their work to creatively communicate insights. The session provided an introduction to learn what makes a good data visualisation and pick up some tips on how to get started.
