Heat pumps are an established fossil-free technology for heating homes, but are relatively new to most people in the UK. A lack of consumer confidence and interest in this low-carbon technology could be slowing down the transition to net zero: how can creative thinking and imagination shift perspectives and increase the appeal of heat pumps?
To help raise the profile of heat pumps, Nesta and UAL’s Climate Emergency Network came together to run a design competition, asking UAL students to reimagine heat pumps in order to inspire and motivate potential heat pump manufacturers and prospective owners.
On 24 October, 18:00-20:00, we showcased the winning designs at a special in-person event in London. Attendees saw the winning designs, met the winners and participated in a collaborative discussion on how fresh ideas, artistic expression, and creative approaches can accelerate the heat pump industry's growth and play a vital role in the journey to net zero.
The Climate Emergency Network is non-hierarchical platform for channelling creativity into climate action across our Colleges, research centres and institutes. Our purpose is to foster an internal movement for change - aiming to give opportunities for everyone to engage in climate action.
