Nesta is an innovation foundation. For us, innovation means turning bold ideas into reality and changing lives for the better. We use our expertise, skills and funding in areas where there are big challenges facing society.
Johanna worked in the Health and Ageing team within the Innovation Lab. She worked on Realising the Value - a programme funded by NHS England and jointly led with the Health Foundation to find, test and share best practice ‘person-centred’ health and care approaches to actively involve people in their health and care.
Johanna joined Nesta from the Young Foundation where she was a programme lead in the Applied Innovation Team, managing a portfolio of work in the areas of health, wellbeing and ageing. This included co-producing technology solutions to strengthen older people's networks of care in Wales, developing new involvement models for the national redesign of cancer services, and a project for Islington CCG to creatively bring to life integrated care stories with the local population.
Before joining the Young Foundation, Johanna was the NHS England National Lead for Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs) – a £55m investment in 15 networks set up to create an evidence-based innovation and transformation architecture in healthcare.
Prior to this role, Johanna worked in healthcare innovation, on the policy side with the Department of Health and on the implementation side at NHS London. Before working in health, Johanna was a Research Fellow and worked for the Danish Embassy. She holds an MA in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
