Why did we do this?
Innovation policy seeks to support new ideas for the benefit of all - but in order to achieve its goals, it needs to draw on the best information. In this project, we explored how we can use new sources of data - including big, online and open datasets - and methods like network science and machine learning to create the information that innovation policymakers need in order to achieve a bigger impact.
What did we do?
We worked with Welsh Government on Arloesiadur ("innovation directory" in Welsh), a project to build a web platform that combines, analyses and visualises different datasets in order to create actionable insights for innovation policymakers.
The background
This project builds on previous Nesta work where we have used new data sources, methods and ways of presenting findings to shed light on innovative industries, industrial clusters and technologies. This includes Tech Nation 2016, a big data map of the UK games industry, a geography of creativity in the UK, and the Net Effect.
