Shane Ryan is a social activist, RSA Fellow and Chief Executive of the charity Working With Men, known for his work with fathers and men who are socially or economically disadvantaged, marginalised or isolated.
Now he is heading up The Fathers Development Foundation, an agile forum that works with organisations and individuals to inform and transform the experience of fatherhood, particularly for younger, disadvantaged fathers aged 13-25. Through practice led research, community consultation and bespoke projects with individuals, it is positively influencing parents, practitioners and policy.
Governed by a diverse blend of community members, family and child focused organisations, at the heart of The Fathers Development Foundation are the values of social justice, individual and collective responsibility and the imperative to make a positive difference.
Shane has developed a new way of working with a coalition of organisations and charities such as Barnardos and NSPCC, gaining traction to drive policy change and to engage fathers at an individual level. He has also been engaging with the No.10 Policy Unit with a view to more inclusive fathering and better outcomes for children.
